A competition of this type requires you to make a piece using a certain theme, and meet size and budget restrictions. Then you set it out there to have your creativity judged by your peers and official judges. Yikes, no stress there!
I didn't win this year, but I did learn a lot and definitely challenged myself and stretched myself outside of my comfort zone. My design used a mechanical element that I hadn't tested before and the overall design was a bit unconventional- ie, not in a traditional container. I took a risk by doing a more advant garde piece and I had a minor mechanical failure with my untested technique. Consequently I scored lower than I had hoped, but I understand the judges' assessment.
It isn't just about winning though. I gained knowledge and experience from this whole process and it will only make me a better designer. Will I do another competition? Absolutely! Stressful or not, it was fun, inspiring and educational. |
