Art in Bloom (and spring) seem far off in the future but florists have already been planning and making their art selections.

On a recent January evening, I joined dozens of local florists and flower enthusiasts at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts to select our artwork for the 2017 Art in Bloom Event to be held Thursday April 27th- Sunday April 30th, 2017.

Art in Bloom, now in it's 34th year, is an annual event that exhibits imaginative floral interpretations of selected works of art from the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (Mia) permanent collection. While there are other events of this type at museums around the country, Mia boasts the largest number of floral artists- over 160 last year! And the 2016 event was host to over 35,000 people during the 4 day event!

At the art selection evening in January I selected the following piece.

Now the planning begins! I have some fun ideas and can't wait to put my piece together. I hope that you will put Art in Bloom on your calendar - April 27-30. It is a great event and I would love to see all of you visit me and my piece.

In addition to all the floral fun, there are several free events including Flowers after Hours on Thursday evening and a special family event on Saturday. Ticketed events include a gala, lectures and boxed luncheons. Check the Mia website for information as it becomes available www.new.artsmia.org

One of the best things for me last year was meeting all the enthusiastic visitors. Here I am outside the museum standing by the Koehler & Dramm Institute of Floristry Welcome piece which I helped to install. With me is one of my new flower friends, Margaret (94 years young!)
