Now that Art in Bloom is over, what happens to all those flowers?Another successful Art in Bloom has ended and the clean up begins. For the third year in a row, instead of the used flowers going straight to the compost, a small group of volunteer floral designers worked several hours Monday morning to put together arrangements which were then delivered to area nursing homes, hospice centers and homeless shelters.
A tarp, two folding tables and several water filled buckets, made a fine pop up floral design workspace in the atrium of the Minneapolis Institute of Art on Monday morning. Our goal was 75 arrangements but the combined efforts of floral artists donating abundant beautiful blooms, volunteer floral designers and numerous drivers lead to the creation and delivery of well over 100 vase arrangements. Our cheery floral arrangements brightened the cold rainy day for dozens of people at 80+ different nursing homes, hospice centers and homeless shelters around the metro from Minnetonka to Stillwater and Shoreview to Eagan.
Many thanks to all those who contributed. After Bloom could not exist without your donation of floral product, talent and time!A special thanks to the commercial florists who donated floral product: Bachman's, Wisteria Design, Richfield Flowers and Events, Martha's Garden and Koehler & Dramm Wholesale Florists. |
